New Friends, Groups, and Blog upgrades live!

After weeks of development, we are finally live with upgrades to friends, groups, and blogs.

Friend network
- If either side of a friendship removes the other, the "friendship" is over for both.
- "Cool New People" will now show samples of members near you who are friendly.
- Fixed testimonials so that they show up on your profile (bug).
- Fixed friends presentation on profiles so a nice selection of your friends show up.
- Friends can be sorted by Date Accepted , Last Visit, Handle, Age, Gender, Location, and Title.
- Software optimized to greatly speed up the time needed to show pages of friends (for members with more then 500 friends).
- Can remove pending and declined invites to others (sorted lots of ways including Date Sent)

Groups
- All listings of people include links to their blogs
- When viewing active members of a group, you'll only see the members who's profiles are on (you will still see posts made by them).
- Very large groups should see considerably faster page loads of group members.
- Can sort group members by Date Joined, Last Visit, Number of Posts, Handle, Thumbnail, Age, Sex, Profile Title and Location.
- Banned members should be thwarted to quit and rejoin the group.

Blogs

Uploaded photos in your blogs can now be clicked on to view a larger version of it (only photos loaded since the upgrades).

Really want to thank you all for your support, feedback and patience during this process. The upgrades are the first step in improving the experience in these areas - expect improvements to continue!

As a note, we are currently working on improving site speed related to these changes (have to be live before can optimize distribution/etc).

Andrew

WooHoo! You also fixed the "View All" on recents posts. Instead of showing just one page you now get to the last 14 days of the most recent blog posts. Good job!

Have tongue, will use it. Repeatedly.

The ability to see blog photos larger is WONDERFUL. Thanks for that and also for keeping us up to date. Knowing what's going on really helps the patience factor.

Yeah, I'm still [blog 1hotwahine]

Congrats on getting the fuse to stay lit this time for the updates!!!

I like the new look very much; however, in concerns to the Groups I have 3 Q's to ask.

1- Members that do not post in the set time frame are being listed in the Associated Member Listing. Am I correct in thinking that the member has to leave the group and rejoin the group if they wish to be active in the group?

2- There are members that "ghost" into groups to try and cause disturbances in groups. If the Moderator bans that member (or any member) are they still going to have a back-door back into the group by leaving and rejoining the group?

3- As Moderators of Groups, what are our options to keep an abusive member from using the leave and rejoin a group permanently banned from the group? This is problem that does occur in several groups and the Abuse Team is at times reluctant in helping resolve the situation when they occur.

I do not mean to be a pain in the ass or a thorn in the side Andrew, but this a concern of several moderators of groups when it comes to banning members that have conflicts with other members within groups or TOU are being violated.

Once again thank you for all you been doing and to your programming staff too.
Nick

Thanks for working so hard to make things better here.

I have three people I invited to my network and they were there before now they are not and people who had deleted me from their networks and I deleted a few and is now back in mine.

I hope they don't think I deleted them, then again they may have deleted me.

I am the real deal! "Come Get Me!!!"

Andrew replies on 5/15/2006 11:25 pm:
Could be related to the data migration - hopefully more stable now.

Awesome...thanks!!

Not sure if this is possible, but can we accept someone's invite to their network after we've already declined it? If they resubmit a new invite, would this be possible??

Thanks!

Andrew replies on 5/15/2006 11:26 pm:
You have delete the invite before they can invite you again.

This update is so welcome! Thank you and your staff Judging from the comments here, I shudder to think how everybody could be pleased on this intricate web!

I have only one annoyance ... and I think it might also help with speed? ... not sure though. When one views all members on the group and sort by location, for example, and then ban a member, the subsequent list that loads is not sorted and has to be re-sorted by hitting location. This is quite a time factor and accesses the server each time a member is banned.

Otherwise, still test driving Well done!

Awesome!! Awesome!! Awesome!! Thanks for the improvemnts to the blogs and future improvements. Really respect your efforts in continual evolution of this site. The possibilities are endless. One feature bothers me though, and that's the request review feature. I seem to have come across alot of confrontational people in the magazines. In my experience I have found the worst possible thing you can do is stick up for yourself. That's when they all gang up and really let you have it. I'm not saying everyone is like this but there are a bunch of em. If your defenses get too witty and they can't outsmart ya with their bashing ways, they tend to gather together and request review. I am definitely not the only one getting bashed out there, as a trip to the magazine will clearly show, and I am one of those ones who refuse to die and get bashed for it continually. My last magazine posting was called burying the hatchet and some people bashed me worse then ever. I mean what do you do? I think I have as much right to be here as anyone else out there forced to defend themselves against lovers of war, but due to my sharp wit and power freaks doing everything they can to send people outside their little groups away from the advice lines, I find myself continually having to explain myself to the abuse team, who tell me my best defense is to report THEM to the abuse team. If I reported every abusive person in the advice lines, you'de lose half your customers. The abuse almost seems like a standard social norm in those parts. My approach has been to make it as entertaining as possible. I think given this site is intended for adults, people should be forced to deal with their disputes with words. People can respond to any advice question they want, so no one should feel threatened by advice questions. Aside from that, members are able to block emails, delete comments, ignore who ever the hell they want. I mean how can anyone really get abused on this site? If someone feels they are being abused, they have plenty of options for dealing with it aside from removing someone, who if IS nothing more than an abusive personality will likely learn hard lessons from the bulk of cyber society anyhow. Not having to deal with the so called "abuse out there would free up alot of time for your employees, save you money, and teach adults to deal with matters on their own. I think it's win win win. I mean the abuse guy jason told me one person actually called the abuse team and complained that someone said Hi. I think alot of decent people out there get removed by whacko's and or judgemental people who in defense of having the kind of people THEY want to have on the site, continually report innocent victims to an abuse tea who doesn't have the time to properly investigate the background and circumstances. I think free speech allows us to evolve, and everyone should have a right to it. Giving mainstream society the power to take that right from people is deterimental to society as a whole. Even if someone is clearly nothing more than a prick, keeping them immersed in society should eventually steer them right. I think people need to realize this. I know I've been doing everything I can to fight the good fight, and I know it will take some time for this site to reap the benefits, but I still believe society is better off if everyone is a part of it. Conflict exists everywhere in many forms, but not allowing people to resolve these conflicts is damaging to a person. Everyone has their own opinions about the best way to resolve conflicts, but everyone has their own opinions about everything. They should all be expressed. That's how we learn. Save time. Save money. Save souls. Save Kmunch.

I'm not sure if this has been raised ....

I cannot view Associate members in my group
I cannot make a post in my group

Is it a bug or settings? ... I disabled members posting polls ...

Just want to add ... GREAT work on the speed
