CHRISTMAS IS CANCELLED HERE!   Yesterday my -in-law, who lives at home with me and my wife, tested positive for covid. All plans for Christmas have been turned upside down. We normally host a family dinner but that has been called off. My -in-law is confined his bedroom and neighbouring bathroom. My job is tend his every need - make him cups of tea, leave his meals outside his bedroom door, do his shopping, answer the door when his many friends call and constantly remind him that he must isolate not for his sake but for the sake of others. He just shouts what he wants for me muster sufficient cheer carry out his wishes. I am a resentful of what has happened. It has been coming. Bar for wearing a face mask, his behaviour has hardly changed since the pandemic started nearly two years ago. He thinks that covid is a hoax, that the vaccines designed suppress covid are part of a government conspiracy tame its people, that the side-effects of vaccines are far worse than covid itself, and that he would never got covid because he is and fit. As I write this now, he has just shouted that he wants me make him another cup of tea! I have had many a discussion with him about getting vaccinated stressing the advantages for him. I have advised him that well over 5 million people worldwide have died from covid, that being vaccinated means he is roughly 80 per cent less likely get covid, that the vaccines have been thoroughly tested, that any side-effects of the vaccines are minor and temporary, that being vaccinated protects others close him, that getting vaccinated for free will save him money as he would not have fork out for tests before and after going abroad holiday, that being vaccinated will allow him more easily get clubs and football games, and that many employers are increasingly recruit only staff who are vaccinated. He is graduating from university next year. Yes, I still shudder think that he has had over two years of higher education, presumably evidence-based learning, pumped into him only for him to hold his stupid views! But my arguments are met with indifference and even disdain. His latest claim that omicron variant of covid comes from eating rats! My discussions with him remind me of the words of Mark Twain: Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience And now he has just asked me to collect his food delivery from outside the apartment! With one night to go, I am determined to enjoy Christmas as best as I can. Champagne is now in the fridge. Presents are wrapped and under the Christmas tree. The turkey is ready for roasting. And trash Christmas movies are on television. All I have to do is put a glass of milk and a plate of biscuits ready for the visit tonight of lok4fun500, the Santa Claus of blogland! I to wish you all a very Merry Christmas, or Happy Holidays if you prefer!   |

I’m still reeling after hearing of all the Xmas parties that took place last year in Downing Street, where Boris Johnson lives, and in other government departments when the country was so-called lockdown. The civil servant who was charged to investigate these illegal parties had to stand down because he also attended a Xmas party in the Cabinet Office. You couldn’t make it up; you don’t have to because we have a lying, shameless clown as a Prime Minister!  [image]

 ... I am sorry to hear the troubles you have right now. I would put yourself and the others first and let your son wait. Hopefully he now realizes it is for real and not a hoax. I will give your present first when I get over England! [image] sorry I couldn't fill the bucket!

Oh lord…to be honest, I don’t think I could allow an unvaccinated person to live with me. Even a close family member- they’d be out on the street! 😂 But you are a good person to protect the public’s health by keeping him imprisoned for Christmas. Enjoy that champagne, you’ve earned it!

YIKES, that totally sucks and I understand your being bitter about it. I would be as well. I'm not sure it is you that is the servant, as opposed to a joint effort with wifey and perhaps others in the house ( well unless they've dressed you up as a maid to put some fun in it  ) but I'm sure there is a logical reason and perhaps it's best just to plunge ahead as you seem to be doing.I hope you have as Merry a Christmas as the situation allows. Seems to be quite entertaining to have an enemy just next door Anyway, with some humour we will survive everything and everyone. My former wife is now living on the other side, reading other "newspapers" and following strange people. Good to having her in an about 30 miles distance now. Follow Mark Twain and enjoy life, whenever you can! I hope he learns from this but doesn't actually get too sick. Of course, there was a covid outbreak at a Q-anon event and they are claiming it was anthrax. Opportunity may knock only once, but temptation bangs on the door forever!

Oh dear, my sympathies are with you, not your son, & apart from agreeing with many of the above I'm reminded of Abe Lincoln's quote "I don't like that person, I need to get to know him better"! Maybe, IF you can stay curious you can find out what evidence he's based his current beliefs on? Have a Merry Xmas anyway, (it might irritate him eve more!)

I am so sorry this happened to you my friend. But I can tell you that your not alone with not Celebrating Christmas once again we are not as well. Some kids think they are invincible and don't want to listen to us when we are older and wiser than they are and pay attention to the issues regarding Covid-19. And he is wrong about the Omnicron Virus, its a virus spun off form the original Covid-19 virus. I am so sorry he ruined your Christmas my friend, but like me I just have to pray that there is a very Merry Christmas for us next year.. Seduce the mind and see what a wonderful adventure the body will take you on..

Sorry that this has happened and I'm sure you're not the only one who's had to cancel Christmas for the same reason. There are so many young adults getting Covid over here and the one's that decided not to have the vaccine are the main patients. They then ask to have the vaccine, but they don't realise you have to recover from the virus before you can have it.

If I got my son-in-law to get his own stuff, it would mean him entering the kitchen and lounge, which I use, and I don't want to catch covid from him. It's safer for me with him locked away in his bedroom!

Sorry that this has happened and I'm sure you're not the only one who's had to cancel Christmas for the same reason. Sorry to hear that. Our government cancelled just about everything here. Limiting families visits for Christmas because of our numbers going way up. Stay safe. There is always next year. Hopefully we are in a better place next year. hugs V Become a blog watcher sweet_vm
