People appearing online when no longer there

It is frustrating when people are apparently available for chat and no message gets delivered. Once a person logs off how long does it take for them to come offline?
Very frustrating. But what are you going to do!

 Yup...I occasionally log in with my cell, and then get emails asking why I didn't respond to an IM. I usually don't log out if I use the cell, but never really knew if it kept me showing online or if it timed me out.

 Sometimes pple r browsing and just don't pay attention to chats . If u send a message to an inbox an immediate response is not required.
