Shame!

There is currently a malfunction in the United States of America. It seems we have inadvertently voted to have a misogynist, racist carnival barker and erstwhile con man as our president and de facto leader of the free world. Wait- strike that. The leader of the free world is now Angela Merkel- you know, the successor to the Third Reich who recoiled at the attempts at shoulder massages by the last man of the people who we decided we’d like to have a beer with, elected as our fucking president by the United States Supreme Court? Yeah, that’s the guy. Dubya. But Dubya wasn’t dumb enough to satisfy us so we doubled down on stupidity and elected Donald J. Trump. This is all about getting over on the guy next to you. Fuck him. Its all about me. So much for e pluribus unum, you dumb fuckers. Don’t worry about the poor of a bitch next to you. Let the bastard find his own fucking lifeboat.

In one vote, one election, Americans who have in such self congratulatory fashion bragged about being a melting pot that welcomes “your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free”, decided instead to embrace hatred, jealousy and rank fear to deny the humanity of our countrymen and fellow human beings. In this week, I hope against hope that my atheism is incorrect- that there is indeed a god and that she will consign every one of you to burn in a lake of fire for all eternity. Fuck you, fuck your progeny and fuck all your issue forever, you sorry and sad excuses for men. You are a congress of baboons, with my apologies to the goddamn baboons. So much for American exceptionalism. It just so happens that we are apparently only exceptional at fucking up a wet dream. There was indeed a noble experiment going on here. We nearly lost it in 1860 but fortunately our forbears were better men than we and saved our worthless souls for a generation or two. But, never fear, we’ve revealed our true character for what we really are- sad sorry miserable and selfish fuckwits who can’t see past the next plate of hot wings or the next pitcher of beer. You disgust me. I want to watch you grubbing for roots in the filth from which you came and to which you will surely return.

Americans were assured by the robot pundits who clutter what passes for news programs these days that the voters would reject Trump resoundingly, and they indeed voted to elect Hillary Clinton. So for the second time in sixteen years a candidate will assume the presidency after having been outvoted by a plurality of citizens. And now the same puppet pundits are instructing us all to accept this fascist loudmouth with open arms and give him a chance to succeed.

Don’t wait up for me. I won’t be going to that party.

What I will be doing is making noise. I’ll be standing up and shouting “Not my president!” and “Rise up! Fight back!” I’ll be standing in a crowd of all those who are marginalized and scapegoated by the neo-nazi thugs. I’ll be hollering my support for women, gays, lesbians, transgenders, blacks, hispanic, muslims, the disabled….that list is legion. It seems only white western european males are acceptable Americans now. There can be no excuses for condoning Trump and what he stands for. A vote for Trump was a vote for hatred and bigotry and bullying. And every voter who cast that ballot put his stamp of approval on a rebirth of fascism.

The rest of us may not win. We may not keep him from ramming his moronic policies up our asses. We may not stop him and that used car salesman Paul Ryan from dismantling the last vestiges of the New Deal, but we can say the truth, and we can take a page from their own playbook and obstruct every inch of the way. We can still stand up and be counted and we can form a circle around our targeted friends. We can pledge to take back first the house, then the executive and next the senate. The judicial branch is now lost to us for at least a generation thanks to the travesty of this election. But we can start. Rome wasn’t built in a day. The country is changing. Young people voted overwhelmingly for Clinton, and more importantly, they voted against hate.

But for the present, we fight back. There can be no making nice with racism. No peace with fascists!

Wow. Your outrage is palpable. .. I get it.

I too was disappointed in the outcome. I am fearful for what may come over the next four years.

I found myself cheering on the protesters. It seemed like every high school wanted to get on the news. Those kids looked dumb as fuck, still .. I cheered them on. (Until they start blocking traffic. Some of us still gotta work.) .. Protests had morphed into No DAPL by Saturday.

Yes, maybe it is time to do away with the electoral college. But I'm just a little guy.

God (or FSM or whatever) help us.

I can well understand your stand.
The world has taken a horrible turn over recent years - I think it can be traced to the 2008 financial crisis; financial and economic shocks always lead to political shocks.
The rise of nationalism at best and xenophobia/racism/fascism at worst across the world is frightening. In the UK, there's the rise of the UK Independence Party led by Trump's racist friend Nigel Farage that culminated in Brexit and increased hate crime against EU nationals. In the rest of Europe, the far Right are on the march in Germany, France and the Netherlands, all three of which have key elections next year In America, there's the Trump phenomenon.
Though I'm no believer that history repeats itself, but the parallels between now and the inter-war years are frightening. Rising unemployment may be the catalyst for war.
Though globalisation has undoubtedly produced winners (eg China, India and mobile skilled professionals) and losers (eg America, Greece and relatively low-skilled Western workers), the answer isn't trade wars and protectionism. The answer lies in managing such change through
investment, education and training, etc.
Protectionism was what happened in the inter-war years. After the Second World War, many people, especally in Western Europe, believed that trade was a key way of reducing the likelihood of war. Their quite reasonable assumption was that countries are less likely to go to war with each other if they are trading with each other.
Hitler promised to put Germany first, amidst much hatred, bigotry and killing. Trump is starting to do the same.
The only crumb of comfort I can find, and it is only a crumb, is that US presidents sometimes find it difficult to get what they want.
Trump has given people in America and beyond licence to promote hatred; this genie is very difficult to put back in the bottle once let loose.
I'm so down with all this, but the fight must go on.

I hate politics and despise politicians. Hillary Clinton is not an exception - she's a power hungry liar. But aren't all politicians?
There was one seemingly decent candidate among Democrats - Bernie Sanders but party chose Clinton, and that shocked me.
And we ended up with a choice between also power hungry misogynist, bigot, racist and foulmouthed bully Trump and liar Clinton. Not much of a choice, is there.

I can rationalize why so many people voted Trump. He promised to return jobs to America - that was his main appeal.
But what I can't rationalize or simply comprehend is how that one alluring promise could outweigh his numerous flaws of character and outrageous behavior. I'm still trying to process how could women vote for Trump.

Younger people grieving in somewhat different way than we do. But, they're already up in arms. There are things that need to be changed before anything else, in my opinion - electoral college.

I agree with Furbal - history tells that electoral college does not represent will of all people. It proved to be outdated in 2000 and it proved that again this year.

Thank you my friend. There really is no other choice but defiance. As firmly as I believe in compromise and cooperation, there can be no compromise with bigotry and bullying. Charity begins at home and that's where Pam and I will start. We have to change our state government first. That's how the conservatives seized power, and that's how we take it back.

Unlike you, I can't rationalize how so many people ignored trump's racism and misogyny. Americans have demonstrated over and over that they don't recognize incompetence when it does a pratfall right under their noses, but no one is being fooled here- they knew they were casting their votes for a bigot and a bully and they were fine with it. And now so many feel empowered by it.

My son, daughter in law and I were talking about this just a few hours ago. My daughter in law is studying international politics at the UW and knows a lot about US history and politics as well so she is a wealth of information. She was reading outloud from somewhere about civil war. I don't usually speak up but I did this time, as I have quite a lot since Trump was elected. I told them that it feels like this country may be headed for a Civil War, if things go the way Trump wants them to go...could it really come to a civil war? Like you said, kzoo....those of us willing to put our voices, our bodies, our freedoms and even our lives on the line to form that barracade around people targeted by this hatred. I hope it does not come to more than just our voices and our bodies in protest....I hope there are enough sane people in power who would listen to the masses protesting and do something positive before it got real bad. We all need to be vigilant, let our voices be heard...do not sit back and hope it goes away. Even on this site, we have seen that does not work.
Thank you for you blog, kzoo ^5

Well done.

You know how I feel. One of the places we need to start vote wise is to change or eliminate the Electoral College at the state level. Make it a more proportional system if we can't get rid of it all together.

Hate crime laws need to be enforced vigorously before they overturn that legislation or just choose to ignore it.

I cried for the first time in years when I woke up to the results. Others I know were physically ill. Many people in my organization took mental health days on Wednesday.
My wife and I do have things to lose with a radical right wing lock on all the branches of government, but what made my heart sink immediately was what this means for women of any color or ethnicity, for black and hispanic Americans, for immigrants, for muslims, for gays, lesbians and trans people. Anyone who isn't white anglo saxon protestant heterosexual- which I am- is apparently at risk. Trump has empowered and emboldened racist and sexist fucktards all across the country.

My friend, I think we're more than ready for a woman president- past due, in fact. The media and the right wing have been doing a job of character assassination on Clinton since she first appeared on the national scene. I freely admit she was a flawed candidate. She was flawed by thirty years of bashing up against a sexist network of good ole boys and media attention whores who were interested in nothing more than sensationalist conflict. Clinton played their game and she beat them at it until this final battle. Whatever mistakes she made she has nothing to apologize for. No man would ever have been taken so hard o task for the paltry sins she may have committed. Hillary Clinton won this election. And Trump was right- the election WAS rigged, and he knew it, because he, the Republican Party and Vladimir Putin were rigging it.

They'll do everything in their power to make it worse- they've promised to do so and we've seen their work so we should take them at their word. We can take heart though that Trump is a minority president. His team played the electoral game like card counters at blackjack and they won't care a bit at how or why they won. But the fact is, Clinton won this election. Never forget that she got more votes for the office of president than anyone but Barack Obama. Seen in that way, we don't look quite so vile suddenly. In the last three national elections, a black man and a woman out performed everyone.

That's the ray of sunlight in all this, along with the fact that young men and women resoundingly repudiated misogyny and racism with their votes.

Bill, you and I agree on the solutions that plague our country. But I disagree with you on Trump. The picture above is that of our first lady. When asked about threesomes, his response was "doesn't everybody, have them"?No doubt he is a lout and a vulgarian. His son in law Jarred is an orthodox Jew. His daughter converted to Judaism. He is a narcissist, not a Nazi. He is a New York liberal like Bloomberg pretending to be a Conservative. They play to win. Truman Capote was one of his closest friends. He already put same sex marriage to bed. He said that supreme court already settled it and that's that. End of story. Obama deported 2.8 milion people. He has another 1.9 Mil with criminal record waiting for deportation. He will deport the people on Obama's list and call it a great success.

I am delighted that he blew up the republican as well as democratic establishment. Had Hillary won, Sanders and Warren would have been just nuisance to be tolerated. Now they are the New Democrats(The establishment). Bush and Clinton dynasty is in a coma. No coronation thanks to Trump and Sanders. 3 progressive females became senator. Warmongers and globalists McCain, Graham, Clinton, Pelosi, Reid and Neo cons are history. Sen Harris and Masto are the same caliber as Warren.

I voted Republican, democrat and Independent. I have been an anti establishment voter for a long time. I love the fact that Trump is a bully and is hated as much by republican establishment as well as progressives. The animosity between him and the media is unprecedented. I wanted a cobra in the white house, I also voted in some mongoose in the congress if it ever gets out of line. 100 million or 44% of the eligible voters did not vote. Finally people are waking up. If trump delivers, he will get veto prrof majority in the senate, Pennsylvania and New jersey will have Republican Governers. Time for redistricting is almost here, The big battle is going to be there. Lot of the jerry mandering, taking blacks and poor whites for granted will substantially altered.

Thank you sweetheart.

I have not regained my optimism. I've read history so I know how this story often turns out.

Something that's bugged the shit out of me over the course of this election cycle is being told that I have to understand how the Trump supporter thinks. That I have to relate to him. I'm told this as if I were from another planet, maybe another solar system, but the fact is the people giving this advice don't know what they're talking about. They don't know who I am. I've spent my entire life with the typical Trump voter. I'm a retired truck driver. I've commiserated with these folks over the losses in their lives and I've been angry alongside them when the corporation reduces their wages, strips their benefits and "downsizes" them. I already understand their anger and frustration because I've felt it too, standing right next to them.

You already know this because I've told you about my own struggle against giving in to anger and despair, and the temptation to take it out on someone who isn't at all responsible for my woes. It's time for some tough love here, with the emphasis on tough. A vote for Trump was the coward's way out, and the path of fools. A brief glance at just who Trump is hiring to run his administration should remove all doubt about what's in store for us as Americans. Our fellow citizens pointed a finger at us and said "Take them first." There's a shit rain coming.

You're right- we disagree about Trump! He cheapens and demeans us as a people. And I also disagree that he's a New York liberal who plays to win. That asshole is no winner and never has been. Instead of parlaying his daddy's fortune into billions he squandered it and played the bankruptcy courts like a board game. He's a fucking loser. And in the end it'll be the racists and white supremacists who will play him. He's out of his league now.

I was looking for the 'like' button for this comment.........seriously..........f'n eejit!!

Aye, it's terrifying, what he will leave in his wake has until this last few years been completely marginalised. No amount of rationalising will ever correct the fact that this fuck has unleashed a terror that will potentially bring us all down. They believe it is time for cleansing, now they have the power to cleanse........

Trump and his closest advisors are liars. They've demonstrated over and over that they have no respect for either the truth or other human beings. The ferret wearing fraud has named white nationalist Steve Bannon as his chief strategist and at the same time we're being asked to give Trump a chance. This is chickenshit of the smelliest variety on the part of pundits who are afraid for their jobs and politicians with no spines. We're on our own here. Apologists for Trump are either tainted or fucking stupid. Maybe both. Are we doomed to repeat history yet again? There will be no peace with fascists.

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

poem written by Pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the cowardice of German intellectuals following the Nazis' rise to power and subsequent purging of their chosen targets, group after group. Many variations and adaptations in the spirit of the original have been published in the English language. It deals with themes of persecution, guilt and responsibility.

Thank you, my friend. I think you're right.

This is what loomed in America's future in 1939. They had no idea that their rejection then would be reversed and come to fruit seventy seven years later. America has given in to fear and hatred. Al Qaeda has won. We were warned that they couldn't defeat us, that we'd have to do that ourselves. We just did.

As long as the American public remains stupid enough to let this happen, it's not going to change.

Only some of the public is that stupid- that's our hope and our salvation. We have to mobilize to stop the fucktards. This meme illustrates exactly what we're up against. We can't afford to fail, no matter what. Our very lives depend on it.

Really I just don't get it under Obama we have went backwards healthcare is a joke we have seen no growth middle class income has decreased. We have 95 million less jobs than we did in 2008 and the food stamp program has increased by 4.5 million people. If you would just lister to what Trumph says and not listen to the lies in the media you might be educated. But I am sure you will just call me names a say I am bad person. I have went backwards the last 8 years I work 12 hour days and I still have less!!!! The way you feel is the way I felt when Oboma

Really, all I have to say to you is that you've gotten even less articulate and more incoherent since the last time you visited here, which was to support the campaign of scapegoating and bigotry being waged against a blogger here. I reckon I will add that I'm not a bit surprised that you support Trump. He's a goddam narcissistic fool and you finally have one of your own where you want him. May you live to reap what you have sown, which is intolerance, fear and fascism. If you're going to indulge in drunk typing, at least practice holding your liquor first.

LOL. you sir, seem to have a remarkable talent of drawing ignorant fools to your blog.
although, I think I treat my ignorant fools with more patients than you do..
I give then the praise that they want......
I give them the meat for there potatoes
I give them the ice tea for there lemons..

you on the other hand.. give them a slap on the face and a shake of their shoulders.
seems either way.. we do not do any good with them.
I m thinking the next time they comment. I m just going to let there comment stand. and not reply to it..

I was wondering if that wouldn't work with tRumplestilskin , what if we had a media that wouldn t cover the asshole at all.. Seems he loves to be talked about.
what if he held all these rallies and no media showed at all..
let him put out his shit on twatlle.. what will he reach, 4 ,5 million..
less harm done ...

really love this blog post.. and again thanks for the excellent thoughts and continuity.
