Scammers, scammers and more scammers.

This place can be depressing sometimes, but now, what used be depressing amuses . Only once have I been taken for money by an BBWMatchMate scammer. She asked for game cards so that her offspring could go at a neighbor's while we got together. , she was beautiful and so in love with a man she'd never met. I'm embarrassed admit that she took for $600 told. She had scratch off the cards see the code numbers and then send her a photo of those cards. The first two cards didn't work, she said, as I was driving to meet her. I stopped and got two more. Same thing. I got two more and was in the parking lot across from her alleged apartment building. I told her she had to come to the parking lot to get the cards. Because I was only 80% an idiot. She never came out.

Then there was the woman who desperately wanted to meet me, but her mother had suddenly moved in with her. Though she didn't ask for money, she toyed with me for a couple months.

How about the woman who wanted to meet me, but needed money to fix her car. I didn't fall for that. Or the most common scam of them all...

You contact a woman you would like to become friends with benefits. Her profile says she's in your basic area. But, when you start communicating with her, you find out she is actually in (take your pick) the UK or Arizona or Turkey or Texas. That's pretty much a sure sign that she's a fraud.

The back-and-forth is good. You think that maybe she's the one you've been seeking. They're beautiful, caring, self-sufficient, smart and with interesting careers. They can't wait to meet you. And then...

...they ask for money.

Ms. UK needs money to get home.

Arizona needs money for her aunt's medication and medical bills.

Turkey needs money for food and medical bills because, somehow, this designer who travels the globe designing stuff, doesn't get paid until the job is done.

Texas. She's an art dealer just waiting on a shipment of statues before she can fly to your arms. But she needs money for an unexpected tariff.

I confess, once I started seeing these patterns, I would start playing along to see when they would try to reel me in. My messages to them echoed their romantic feelings for me. I complimented their beauty when they sent me photos of women who were definitely not them. Until they asked for money. Which is when I would stop talking to them and, if they were texting me, block their numbers.

Believe it or not, I don't automatically dismiss such women. I give them the benefit of the doubt until they show their true natures. And I'll keep trying to find that one special friend with benefits I long for. But here's the thing. I'm a professional writer. I know story structure. I can see a plot twist coming a mile away. You're not going to get me with these lame scenarios.

If I had actually met any of these women and be sure they were they claimed to be, I would at least try to help them. But, odds are, they aren't even real.

One last thing. Do men try to scam women this way? I'm thinking women are too smart for that.

Good luck to all honestly seeking someone on BBWMatchMate. I wish you all the best.
