Year of the Ox

It's time t.o say good-bye t.o the Year of the Rat and say hello t.o the Year of the Ox.

Over a billion people in China and millions around the world celebrate Lunar New Year.

Lunar New Year begins with the first new moon of the lunar calendar and ends on the first full moon of the lunar calendar, days later.

Based on the Chinese Zodiac, animals and their attributes are assigned t.o each year in a twelve-year repeating cycle. If you are born during the following years, you are an Ox.
Birth years: 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021

In Chinese culture, the Ox is a faithful friend that made great contributions t.o the development of society. Like the ox, people born in the Year of the Ox are said t.o be industrious, cautious, hold their faith firmly, and always glad t.o offer help.

When I was working full-time, half the office would be empty for a few hours while organized groups went out to celebrate. I do love Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Korean food and miss those celebrations.

Do you celebrate?

I celebrate just being able to find decent Japanese and Thai places since there aren't any within an hour of me..

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Yes I do, occasionally.
Everyone does.
Everyone has to.
Everyone will find an excuse to.

There were several years that I would go to San Francisco and take pictures of the festivities. I personally don't have a connection to it, but I a lot of my coworkers celebrate and I get included.

I hope that the year of the OX is much better than this past year for us all and we can find a better way to get back to normal in the world like we were pre covid.

Well, that certainly poses a challenge.

I think that is what we all wish for! It seems we take one step forward and then two steps back. Keep safe!

Many people don't because they don't like the cuisine or have some pre-conceived bias because of the source of Covid. It's there loss.

San Francisco has great Asian restaurants. Like you, I didn't have any personal connection but would get swept up in the luncheons and celebrations.

I think it's what most people are hoping for. No doubt there will be a redefined version of 'normal'.
