A DINGLE WEDDING

A DINGLE WEDDING

Teasingly I call my girlfriend’s family, the Dingles. The Dingles are a family in Emmerdale, a television soap opera popular in Britain. The Dingles aren’t the brightest buttons in the drawer, but their entangled lives, dodgy dealings and stupid antics make for a great anchor to my favourite soap programme.

My girlfriend’s family, especially her extended family, are like the Dingles but don’t appear on television to display their talents, though I think Jeremy Kyle would be very interested in having them on his trash television show.

Last weekend I was supposed to accompany my girlfriend to a family wedding. One of my girlfriend’s nieces was marring the ex-husband of another one of my girlfriend’s nieces. The wedding was taking place in Boston in Lincolnshire, the Brexit capital of Britain. This was not a wedding I was looking forward to.

My girlfriend and I decided that staying in the same hotel of the wedding was on balance the best option, as we could get drunk to soften the wedding experience.

On the day before the wedding my girlfriend dealt me a 'get out of a jail card'. She said that if I don’t want to go to the wedding, her would be happy to take my place. Not wanting to deny her any happiness, I gallantly stood down from my duty to accompanying my girlfriend to the wedding.

Do you regularly watch any television soap programmes?
What’s been the worst wedding you’ve been to?
How well do you get on with the family of your partners?

Normally I love weddings and I’ve not been to a bad one, even my own drunken wedding was good. But the worst, but still the most entertaining, wedding I’ve attended was a wedding where a mass brawl broke out between the families of the bride and groom.

My girlfriend’s family have not matched Bill Wyman and Mandy Smith … yet! Bill Wyman, the Rolling Stones’ bass player, started seeing Mandy Smith in 1983 when she was 13 years old; Mandy Smith's mother acampanied them on their honeymoon! Five years later, they got married but their marriage lasted just two years.

However, when Bill Wyman and Mandy Smith were experiencing marital difficulties, Mandy Smith’s mother Patsy married Bill Wyman’s Stephen. Now that’s an entanglement!

By the way, my girlfriend’s family think I’m a stuck-up upper class snob from Downton Abbey! But we get on very well despite and maybe even because of the class divide!

As a priority, I try very, very hard to get on with my partner’s family. Getting on always makes like calmer and simpler!

worst was a hippydippy at a farm where the sweet scent of manure wafted gently over the buffet. and the vows took nearly an hour with lots of chanting and monks and incense (that was actually a good thing given the manure) but half the people took naps (given the weed) and then another hour when we all had to lay hands on the couple and pledge our commitment..

bloody endless. especially stoned. with manure.

then a long meadow walk. I mean, really??

then as the sun set, finally some food and a ravi Shankar kind of band. until someone turned on their car radio. thank the goddess.

You cannot conceive the many without the one.

And what a wedding that would be! And the pick nick to follow! Used to watch some soaps, now I sometimes watch the news only. I flew back from holiday once with what's her name, Phil's girlfriend from Eastenders, blonde, short hair, black leather trousers, and that angry look...no, I was not describing my guess, that is how she looked, straight out of a film set....in Athens airport among returning holiday makers. You know, loads of flip flops and shorts at 40 degrees! I would like to get on with a partners family, but need a partner, for tests.

I don't watch much TV but I do watch an Irish soap...Fair City. I used to watch Emmerdale so I do know who the Dingles are though!!

The worst wedding I have ever been to....my late husnband's youngest sisters......The groom was drunk BEFORE he got to the church....so was my husband....and my husband fell asleep at the table during the meal.

In answer to your last question...all I can say is that the last time I saw or spoke to my husband's family was 3 months after his funeral....and I am really pleased about that.

Do you regularly watch any television soap programmes? No, I cut the cable about a year ago.

What’s been the worst wedding you’ve been to? I avoid them mostly

How well do you get on with the family of your partners? No, I don't deal with crazy/stupid very well.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro.

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Do you regularly watch any television soap programmes? No I don't.

What’s been the worst wedding you’ve been to? They have all been about the same, none bad. But I have been to very few and I like it that way.

How well do you get on with the family of your partners? Okay but I don't really see them much at all.

I no longer have cable at my house so I do not watch any soaps or anything very often. The worst wedding was two folks from New Jersey, mingling Armenian with Irish( OH N and the bride's aunt got drunk and climbed up on a table in the posh restaurant and started doing the can-can- no undies on under her dress

Do you regularly watch any television soap programmes? None for me

What’s been the worst wedding you’ve been to? All so far have been fairly mundane

How well do you get on with the family of your partners? The ex family lives on the Thai / Laotian border, have not seen them in 40 plus years, so all in all we get along fine

1. Nope, never.
2 My cousin's, turns out too that she'd been having an affair with her husband's best man for several years. It was all very false, and that was before I knew about her affair, the poor wee scone! She's now remarried to said best man, they have two kids and are going strong.
3. Aye, most of them, even those I don't get on well with, I get on well enough with them..........

I haven't watched any 'soaps' in the last twenty years!
Most weddings I attend seem to be short lived....even family ones!

The Dingle wedding, so I've been told, passed without incident and was even described as boring. I made a good call to miss it!

JUST WHEN I THINK I'VE CAUGHT UP WITH YOU, YOU BANG OUT ANOTHER ONE.

Do you regularly watch any television soap programmes? No,can't say that I do.
What’s been the worst wedding you’ve been to? none come to mind, well my brother-in-law's was quite the overblown affair, enormous wedding party and several priests officiating, I suppose he want to cover all his bases and made sure he'd done it right. I remember him actually saying, now the Prince Charles had married he supposed it was time for him to do it too. He's really quite a bombastic ass most of the time.

How well do you get on with the family of your partners? His aunts and uncles and cousins are lovely, his brother and sister-in-law and most of their children are quite another, a bunch of two-faced, lying, Trump voting, back stabbers, need I say more?
I hope your brother-in-law didn't get his wife killed or talk about being a tampon on the phone like Prince Charles!

That sounds like one drunken wedding. I presume the drunken groom and your husband were suitably reprimanded.
I got drunk at my wedding but it was after the service and my wife got drunk too. We were too drunk to consummate our marriage on our wedding night!

Trump's tweets about the London terror attacks are offending a lot of people here! He seems incapable of relating to family and friends of the victims.
